With PHP 5.6 reaching the end of support recently<\/a>, now is a good time to write a refresher on how to update to a more current version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to update the PHP version on cPanel<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Take a backup of all the sites on the server<\/li>
  2. Log in to cPanel<\/li>
  3. Look under Software<\/em> for \"PHP Selector\" or \"PHP Manager\"<\/li>
  4. Choose the domain to update<\/li>
  5. Change the PHP version<\/li>
  6. Click \"Update\", \"Apply\" or \"Save\"<\/li>
  7. Check the sites are still running<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    I'll go through some of the more common hosts below, but this is the basic process if the host is running cPanel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you're on a dedicated server, running Parallels or some other server software, the process will be different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For the rest of the examples, I'll assume you've taken a backup of all the sites. In fact, whenever you are going to make any changes to a site, you should always take a backup first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
